The Origins of Salvia
Salvia originated in Mexico where it was a part of a large mint family which consisted of perennial herbs. There are nearly a thousand species in this family and it can include sage plants as well. A single salvia plant will grow to about the height of three feet. The leaves are green and big. The stem is square in shape and hollow. As well, the white and purple colored flowers show distinctively. Salvia divinorum is only one of many plants which affect your vision and are used at times for rituals and spiritual events with certain Indian tribes.
As a Drug
Today, a lot of people use salvia as a drug. Salvia holds the power to alter your mind and is a very potent herb. However, salvia has not been referred to as an addictive drug and is not a narcotic drug either. Not enough research has been done to find out of a salvia addiction is possible but for your basic addictions, it doesn’t seem nearly as common. There could still be damage from using salvia for an extensive period of time.
Salvia divorinum has been discovered for a long time now and has been used for various reasons. In certain areas you can buy, sell, and use salvia without worrying about breaking the law. There are some places that have made it illegal or put certain restrictions on the drug though. The origins of salvia sit in Mexico but now it is found all across the world.
